Anti-lock-in policy

You should never stay with Forge Labs for lack of an alternative. This policy explains what is yours, how your product’s resources are organized while we work together, and how we hand everything over if you decide to move to another team.

What is yours

• The intellectual property of everything we build for you (code, design, and documentation), transferred once the project is paid in full.
• Your data, always, including while the contract is active.

Where resources live during the contract

So you don’t have to manage any of it, your product’s resources live under the Forge Labs organization on each platform: AWS accounts, domains, code repositories, and the developer accounts on the App Store and Google Play. We take care of configuration, renewals, and billing, and you can follow everything through the inventory described below.

What we deliver throughout the project

• Infrastructure described as code (Terraform), able to recreate every environment from scratch in another account.
• Architecture and operations documentation: how to run the product, how to ship a release, and how to restore a backup.
• An up-to-date inventory of every resource your product uses: accounts, domains, services, and the platform each one lives on.

Nothing proprietary in the way

We use mainstream, documented technologies. Your product does not depend on any closed framework or service of ours to keep running.

How the handover works

When you decide to leave, we help you set up your own accounts and move each resource into your name:

• the infrastructure, to your AWS account;
• the domains, through the registrar’s ownership transfer process;
• the repositories, to your organization;
• the apps, to your developer accounts, through Apple’s and Google’s official transfer processes.

We ask for at least 15 days’ notice before ending a monthly support contract. The handover takes about 30 days on average, and your product stays online and under our care until it is complete.

Handing over what is already yours costs nothing: code, documentation, inventory, and data. The migration work itself depends on the size of the product, so we estimate it and get your approval before it starts.

What remains ours

Internal tools and generic components that existed before your project remain the property of Forge Labs. You receive a permanent right to use them in your product, at no additional cost.
